When warm Americana tones meet Nordic melancholy, something special emerges. That is exactly where Magnolia Shade resides.

Magnolia Shade consists of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jan Kølle and vocalist Susanne Kristensen—two musicians who have each stood strong on their own, but who together have found an expression that elevates the songs to a new level.

Jan Kølle previously made his mark with the band Mojo Hands but chose to go solo to pursue his own songwriting and personal musical expression. That journey culminated in the album Old Songs (2024), which was praised for its authentic and timeless sound. The same year, he received international recognition when the song Across the World won a songwriting award from the American music magazine American Songwriter.

It was during the recording of Old Songs that the seed of Magnolia Shade was planted. Susanne Kristensen contributed as a backing vocalist and sang lead on the duet Rainy Day. In the meeting between Jan’s melodies and Susanne’s voice, a special spark emerged—a tonal foundation of presence, vulnerability, and strength—that made it clear the collaboration extended beyond a single album.

Magnolia Shade is the result of that realization.

In the duo, Susanne serves as the primary vocalist and interpreter, while Jan is responsible for songwriting and guitar. Together, they create a sonic landscape inspired by country, Americana, blues, and the classic singer-songwriter tradition. Their music draws on the organic and earthy, while offering a contemporary perspective on the complexities of adult life.

The songs revolve around hope and doubt, anxiety and longing, the fragility and strength of love—and about finding footing in a world that is not always simple. These are stories that balance the intimate and the universal, delivered with an authenticity that resonates directly.

Magnolia Shade is not just a new name on the Danish Americana scene—it is a meeting of two artists who have found a shared tone where the songs are free to breathe.
